Heather Reid, professor of philosophy at Morningside College, recently organized an interdisciplinary conference on the Hellenic Heritage of Western Greece in Syracuse, Sicily, and edited papers for a book publication.

The conference discussed the cultural and intellectual legacy of Western Greece. The Fonte Aretusa Organization, which hosted the conference and was founded by Reid, revives the link between the new and old worlds of Greece.

Reid also edited a book of selected papers from last year’s conference along with Davide Tanasi, assistant professor at the University of South Florida. “These proceedings became the first volume in a series called ‘The Heritage of Western Greece,’ which promotes the ancient link between Greece and Southern Italy and Sicily,” Reid said.

Reid is a specialist in ancient philosophy and the philosophy of sport. A member of the Morningside faculty since 1996, she received her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
