The Siouxland Youth Orchestras will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in Eppley Auditorium on the Morningside College campus.

The Siouxland Youth Orchestras will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave., on the Morningside College campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Siouxland Youth Symphony, the advanced-level ensemble, will perform “Four Dance Episodes” from Aaron Copland’s ballet “Rodeo”; the Ted Ricketts arrangement of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film score by Klaus Badelt; and repertoire featuring winners of the annual concerto-aria soloist competition: violinists Robert Hwang Jr. and Trina Swanson; soprano Brandy Trucke; and cellist Derek Hwang. Siouxland Youth Symphony is directed by Dr. Sean Burton, a professor of music at Briar Cliff University.

Siouxland Philharmonia, the intermediate-level orchestra, and Siouxland Symphonette, the elementary-level ensemble, will perform educational arrangements of several well-known works. Siouxland Philharmonia is under the direction of Eleanor May-Patterson, a music teacher in the Sioux City Community Schools, and Siouxland Symphonette is directed by Paula Ulicsni-Halvorson, an orchestra director in the Sioux City Community Schools.

The Siouxland Youth Orchestras are part of the Leo Kucinski Academy of Music, a program affiliated with the Morningside College Performing Arts Department.
