Doug Stanek is beginning his first season as head men’s tennis coach at Morningside College.
Stanek, a lifelong Sioux City resident, started playing tennis in the mid 1980s and developed into a high-level tournament player by winning over 20 singles and doubles titles in Open and A level events throughout the Siouxland area. One of Stanek’s top tournament victories came in 1988 when he defeated club professional Dick Hahn in the finals to win the Open division championship of the Sioux City MidTown Athletic Club Clay Court Tournament. Stanek won a MVTA Sectional singles championship in Omaha in 1989 and has won multiple open level doubles titles.
Aside from his passion for tennis, Stanek is an avid bowler who was inducted into the Greater Siouxland Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame after rolling nine perfect games and four 800 series throughout his career.
He is the father of former Morningside women’s tennis standout Cassie Stanek, a 2017 graduate who was a three-time All-GPAC performer and the Mustangs’ all-time leader with 102 career singles and doubles victories.
Stanek has held several positions during a 35-year career at Gelita USA, most recently as an IT Systems Administrator.
