Three Mustangs named to academic all-district team
Three Morningside student-athletes were named to the Google Cloud College Division Academic All-District 3 At-Large Team.
Jimmy Aschenbrenner, Tim Cohoon and Abby Fitzgerald were named to the 2018 Google Cloud College Division Academic All-District 3 Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As all-district selections, their names will go on the national ballot for selection of the 2018 Google Cloud College Division Academic All-America Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams.
Aschenbrenner, a junior from Westminster, Colo., is a middle blocker on Morningside’s men’s volleyball team. He has a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in biology and chemistry. Aschenbrenner led the Mustangs with 20 ace serves and was their top defensive presence at the net with team-high totals of 15 solo blocks and 70 block assists for an average of 0.90 blocks per game during the 2018 season.
Cohoon, a junior from Buffalo, Wyo., is a member of the Mustangs’ swimming team. He has a 3.93 cumulative GPA with a major in business administration. He qualified for this year’s NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships in the 100-yard freestyle
Fitzgerald, a sophomore from Fairmont, Minn., is a member of Morningside’s women’s tennis team. She has a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA with a major in social & behavioral sciences. Fitzgerald led the Mustangs in victories with an 11-9 record at No. 2 singles this past season.
Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors.
