Iowa Campus Compact has selected two Morningside College students to participate in the 2018 Principal Community Scholars Program, which is designed to encourage student leadership to meet community needs.

Alyssa Nehring, a senior from Humboldt, Iowa, and Sarah Sadler, a junior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, will each receive a $1,000 scholarship upon completion of a community service project. Principal, a financial services company based in Des Moines, Iowa, awards the scholarships.

Nehring will work with Hope Ministries to create an awareness campaign for the organization’s winter barbeque fundraiser in Sioux City. Hope Ministries provides medical and educational support for the African country of Tanzania. Sadler will promote the sale of handmade craft items from impoverished communities in Haiti and Ghana. Funds raised go back to families in the two countries.

Campus Compact is a national coalition of 1,100 colleges and universities with 34 state and regional affiliates. Iowa Campus Compact is a statewide association of college and university presidents, providing leadership for the civic mission of higher education.
