Peter Suber, a philosopher specializing in the philosophy of law and open access to knowledge, will come to Morningside College virtually via Google Hangouts to hold an interactive discussion about open access at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.
Open access is unrestricted access, made possible by the Internet, to peer-reviewed scholarly research. This allows scholars to write articles for impact and not lose revenue.
Suber is the director of the Harvard Office for Scholarly Communication and the Harvard Open Access Project. He is also a faculty fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society and is considered the leading expert in the open access movement.
The event is part of Morningside’s Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center Virtual Lecture Series. The college broadcasts the lectures on campus and also streams them live at www.youtube.com/user/TheHJFLearningCenter.
