Ward medals at Hastings tourney
Zach Ward was the individual medalist at the Hastings Roger Doerr Invitational.
Zach Ward, a junior from Waterloo, Iowa, was the individual medalist at the Hastings College Roger Doerr Invitational men’s golf tournament held Monday and Tuesday at The Prairie Club in Valentine, Neb.
The Mustangs finished second in the team standings of the four-team field with a score of 610 to finish 14 strokes off the pace of NCAA Division II University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Ward carded rounds of one-under par 72 each day to finish at 144 for a one stroke victory margin over Jay Cottam of Nebraska-Kearney. Cottam held a three-stroke lead over Ward after the opening round before he finished with a 76.
Morningside’s Cody Holck, a sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa, shot rounds of 76 and 74 to finish in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings with a 150.
The Mustangs’ Ferran Cortilla, a sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, finished in a tie for 10th place with scores of 80 and 76 for a 156.
