Leading Mustang scorers Merele Bublitz and Paytn Harmon help Mustangs nab their third conference win

After a scoreless first half to their match-up on Thursday night, the Morningside women’s soccer team racked up four goals in the second half of the game for a 4-1 victory of the game over Doane in Crete, Neb.

The win moved the lady Mustangs to an overall record of 4-5-1 and 3-2 in conference play.

Three of the Mustang goals game within five minutes of one another early in the second half. Paytn Harmon kicked in the first in minute 47 off of an assist from Merle Bulitz, then followed it up with another in minute 51 with help from Mackenzie Homan. A minute later, Harmon provided the assist on a goal from Bublitz, making it 3-0 Mustangs.

Bublitz and Harmon lead the Mustangs in goals scored this season. Bublitz has nine goals and three assists, and Harmon has six goals and four assists on the year.

Kylee Goodvin scored the final goal for the Mustangs at the 72:12 mark. Her score was set up with an assist from Chloe Wetzbarger. The goal was the second for Goodvin on the season.

Doane did answer with a score from Bailey Sloup at 73:36, but it was all the offense they would muster on the day.

In all, the Mustangs outshot Doane 28-9. Doane keeper Danielle Dubovy had 13 saves, and Mustangs goalkeeper Tristan Beaulieu had two saves.

Women’s soccer next returns home to face Jamestown on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
