Women’s Volleyball take down Corban University
Morningside Women’s Volleyball Dominate Home Opener Against Corban University 3-.
Corban University, a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, who was first in their conference in 2017 with a record of 17-3 came to Iowa ready to win. Morningside who was 10-6 in 2017 used their explosive energy and sheer grit to win the first set 25-21.
A slow start to the second set left Morningside trailing the Warriors until their persistence was rewarded and the Mustangs came back to win 25-22. The third set went neck and neck until Corban pulled away at the very last second to win 25-23.
Headed into the fourth set with great determination the Mustangs came out on top to finish the set winning 25-20. Sophomore Caitlin Makovicka, had the final kill to give the Mustangs exactly what they needed for a match win of 3-1. Morningside junior, Emma Gerber also proved to be invaluable with 13 kills.
The Morningside Mustangs hit the road as they head to La Crosse, WI to compete in the Viterbo Invitational on August 24thand 25thwhen they play St. Francis, Virterbo, Valley City State and Cardinal Stritch. The JV Mustangs are set to compete in the Morningside JV Tourney August 28th, 2018.
