World War II posters from the State Historical Museum of Iowa will be on display at Morningside College from Monday, Aug. 29, to Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Ave.

“War of Words: Posters of World War II” is free and open to the public. For this exhibit, the Eppley Art Gallery will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

John Fender, associate professor of graphic design at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, will speak about the historical and artistic qualities of the World War II poster designs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

“The posters in this exhibit are as colorful as they are compelling,” said Terri McGaffin, associate professor and chair of art at Morningside. “Their story is part of our nation’s history, richly illustrated.  They invite us – that is, artists and designers and every American whose birthright is freedom of expression – to think about the past, present and future of visual communication.”
